Sports Betting Odds – Sergio Aguero has tested positive for coronavirus just days after completing his move to Barcelona. The Argentina international recently flew from Manchester to Barcelona to complete his eagerly awaited free transfer to the Blaugrana.
Once he’d completed his medical and media duties at Camp Nou he flew out to Argentina to join up with his international colleagues ahead of their World Cup qualifiers this week, and after arriving in his home country he was required to take a rapid COVID-19 test.
The results of said test have now returned and the Mirror report that Aguero has tested positive for coronavirus and will be forced to endure a period of isolation. The former Manchester City man is awaiting the results of a second test, though it’s expected that he’ll now miss Argentina’s upcoming clashes with Chile and Colombia.
This isn’t the first time Aguero has contracted the virus having tested positive back in February and subsequently needing to spend two weeks in isolation.
The news will come as a big blow to Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni as he prepares his side for Friday’s clash with Chile. Argentina are currently in second place in the South American World Cup qualifying group, trailing rivals Brazil by two points.
Scaloni’s side won both of their first two qualifiers against Ecuador and Bolivia before dropping their only points of the campaign so far in their draw with Paraguay.
Aguero hasn’t represented his country for well over a year since their 2-2 draw with Uruguay in late 2019, with constant injury issues meaning he’s been unable to link up with his international colleagues. Given the news coming out of Argentina, it seems his wait looks set to go on.
Inter frontman and recently crowned Serie A champion Lautaro Martínez is expected to lead the line for his country in Aguero’s absence.
