Spain captain Busquets tests positive for COVID-19 ahead of Euro 2020

Sports Betting Odds – Sergio Busquets has tested positive for Covid-19 with Spain Euro 2020 warm-up game against Lithuania set to be fulfilled by the Under-21 side. Luis Enrique’s men were scheduled to play their second and final preparatory fixture on Tuesday, but this will now not be possible due to UEFA regulations.

As per a RFEF statement, the Spain captain is the only member of the squad and its staff to have tested positive for coronavirus. Despite this, Busquets, and anyone with whom he has had close contact are now isolating to prevent the outbreak spreading. Spain also confirmed that each player will be undergoing isolated training sessions, a less than ideal situation with an international tournament just around the corner.

Over the coming days Busquets and his teammates will undergo further tests and the extent to which this will affect their preparations will become clearer. Depending on how the situation develops, the Barcelona midfielder could be ruled out for some of his side’s Euro 2020 campaign. Spain are set to kick off with a group game against Sweden on Monday 14 June before facing Portugal and Slovakia on 19 and 23 June respectively.

Enrique controversially left La Roja’s all-time leader appearance maker Sergio Ramos out of the squad, but many still consider them to be dark horses. They received a boost on the eve of the tournament when Aymeric Laporte – long overlooked by the French national team – was granted permission to switch allegiances to Spain.

Laporte is not the only player to watch out for in the Spain squad either. Barcelona sensation Pedri is another exciting prospect, while Villarreal striker Gerard Moreno enters the tournament in great form.
