Sergio Reguilon asked referee to halt Newcastle vs Tottenham due to medical emergency

Sergio Reguilon

Sports Betting Odds – Sergio Reguilon has revealed that he asked referee Andre Marriner to halt Newcastle’s Premier League meeting with Tottenham after spotting a collapsed spectator in the St James’ Park crowd.
The match was suspended just before half time with the players eventually returning to their changing rooms at the request of the match officials.

After a brief pause while the spectator received treatment, both teams reemerged to play the remainder of the first half.

Reguilon was the player who drew the referee’s attention to the situation and he detailed what happened in his post-match interview.

“I saw one guy lying down and one man doing this [miming CPR]. I was very nervous. I went to the referee to say: ‘look at this, we cannot play, stop the match’. The referee and linesman looked there and stopped the match,” he told Sky Sports after the game.

“Now, I think it’s okay right? The guy’s okay? That’s more important than everything. That’s more important.”

Teammate Eric Dier played a similarly vital role in helping the opposition supporter, with the Spurs pair being awarded joint player of the match for their potentially life-saving actions.

“From our point of view we know they have the defibulators on the bench and we obviously didn’t know if the medical staff had that in the crowd so I think Eric ran over to see if they had one,” Harry Kane explained.

“Like I say, it’s devastating to see and we wish him all the best. Obviously for the fans as well it wasn’t nice to be there and see that. From our point of view we just hope everyone is okay.”

Tottenham won the game 3-2 with first-half strikes from Tanguy Ndombele, Son Heung-min and Kane cancelling out Callum Wilson’s early opener and a late Dier own goal.
