Carlo Ancelotti credits Real Madrid’s for inspiring Man City comeback

Mysport99 – Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has insisted it is in the club’s DNA never to give up on the biggest European stages.

La Liga’s newly crowned champions had to overcome adversity to see off Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea in the earlier stages of the Champions League but produced one of the game’s all-time greatest comebacks on Wednesday to see off Manchester City in the semi-final.

Ancelotti’s men fell 4-3 in the first leg and were trailing 1-0 in the second as the clock hit 90, but two goals from Rodrygo sent the tie to extra-time and Karim Benzema popped up with a penalty – his 15th goal in the competition this year – to guide Real into the final.

“I cannot say we are used to living this kind of life, but what happened tonight it happened against Chelsea and also against PSG,” Ancelotti told BT Sport.

“If you have to say why, it is the history of this club that helps us to keep going when it seems that we are gone.

“The game was close to finished and we managed to find the last energy we had. We played a good game against a strong rival.

“When we are able to equalise we had a psychological advantage in extra-time. I have no time to think about this [losing the game]. It was difficult as City had control of the game but the last opportunity we were able to go to extra-time.”

Ancelotti was full of praise for his players for keeping their composure throughout the tournament, but did concede that Real needed some good fortune to book a trip to the final to face Liverpool.

“When everyone thought the game was over, we needed a good mix. We put all our energy into it, but to win, you need a little bit of luck,” he added.

“They were very tough opponents, but the team never gave up. We had everything: sacrifice, luck and energy. It was an intense game that we played very well.”
